Thanksgiving Festivities

I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving! I always enjoy cooking with my parents, and seeing a couple of my extended family members. Since Thanksgiving break is pretty short, we usually stay in town, and my family is not one to dress up - it's all pretty casual.

Before I get onto the best part (the food), I of course have to mention only a few of the countless things I am thankful for.
-My wonderful family and friends
-Being able to go to college
-Music, books, tv shows, and movies that inspire
-Anyone who reads my blog!

It's nice to be especially thankful for one day to remind me to be thankful for all of the other days.

Vietnamese soy rice, hoisin chicken, and salad as mini appetizers until the rest of the food is done!
broccoli and cauliflower casserole (the first time my mom made it - it was easy and delicious!)
I was in charge of the salad - broccoli and spinach w/ a homemade honey dijon dressing
Yum. The wings got a little burnt because after tucking them in, they became loose while cooking (it was still SO delicious).
My personal favorite is always the stuffing!
I was also in charge of dessert (if anyone is still hungry?), and I made this super simple "blueberry pizza" using some frozen blueberries we picked last summer. I'll be sure to post this recipe that is my family's go-to, and it only has six ingredients!
I still can't believe Thanksgiving has come and gone. Which means it's only one step closer to Christmas (!!!).

All the Best,
Stephanie

Etsy Inspiration + DIY

It's almost my favorite time of year - the holiday season! With thinking about buying gifts for others, I've been on many online shopping expeditions (aka me adding things to my cart without buying anything), and that includes one of my favorite sites, Etsy.

All of the items I'll be mentioning have been in my "favorites" for SO long, and I thought it'd be awesome to have alternative DIY projects that are similar.

Little Gems

Who doesn't like an accessory to add a little extra to your outfit? I love dainty pieces, and it's even better when a piece of jewelry means something special too.

Heart Ring: $9.75  //  DIY: tutorial
500 Days Of Summer Necklace $11  //  DIY: put any picture into a bezel!
Moon Earrings $10  //  DIY: galaxy necklace

Keep Cozy

I hope you enjoyed this post and gained some inspiration! I'm definitely going to be posting a gift guide for all of the males in your life as well, because I find they're harder to shop for!

All the Best,
Stephanie

Olay Dew Over Gel Moisturizer

Wow, it's been way too long since I have done a product review! I know I'm always on the lookout for new skincare items to try out (a bonus if it's from the drugstore), and I just had to talk about this one.

Surprisingly, I didn't really look at reviews before buying this, because I will usually go on my phone at the store to see if it generally has positive or negative reviews. It caught my eye because I love gel moisturizers having tried a sample of the Clinique Extended Thirst Relief (it's a little pricey), and was hoping it would be similar.

The packaging is very simple and clean, just being made of plastic. One thing that goes for any moisturizer in a jar though, is that it is unsanitary since you'll be continually dipping into it spread germs. It's easy to fix with just a little makeup spatula, but it can be inconvenient and easy to forget to use sometimes.

The actual color is almost like a mint pastel shade, but when blended in, it dries clear. It does dries very, VERY fast, which I personally like, but if you have really dry skin (I have combination), it probably won't be moisturizing enough to use at night. For the daytime, it's nice since I don't have to wait for it to absorb before I apply my makeup!

Of course, the name "dew" over is too cute! What's your favorite moisturizer?

Overall Rating: 4/5
Cost: $ (around $11 depending on the store)

See you soon,
Stephanie

9 Study Break Ideas!

Now that finals are coming up, the stress can totally put me into a bad mood. So with hours of studying ahead, I think it's important to take breaks to split up the process and make it as enjoyable as studying can be. Here are some quick study break ideas to keep you (mostly) sane!

Oh  and make sure your breaks aren't too long and you get completely off track. It's a slippery slope so set an alarm and focus on what's really important - doing well on finals!

1. Get up and dance around to your favorite upbeat song! I definitely recommend Luv, Hold Me Down by The Drowners or Good Girls by 5 Seconds of Summer.

2. Eat a healthy snack to make your tummy happy. Some of my favorites include:
           -banana/apple with peanut butter
           -granola + greek yogurt
-trail mix: almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit, and dark chocolate chips
           -carrots/cucumbers + hummus
           -light popcorn

popsugar.com
3. Do a couple of yoga poses - I love Warrior, Child's Pose, and Down Dog.

4. Limit yourself to ONE youtube video as a break.

5. Stay hydrated and spice up normal water with fresh fruit or mint.

6. Go outside for some fresh air- I know my dorm room can get pretttty stuffy sometimes.

7. Call your folks or a friend and catch up.

8. Read your favorite blog - mine at the moment is Wanderdust by Rebeccas Jacobs!

9. Make a list of all the fun things you can after your exam is over:)

Even if you're not in college or school, this can definitely apply to whenever there's TONS of work to do. I hope this has helped, and let me know your ideas of little breaks you do while studying!

Love,
Stephanie

{Handwritten Letters}

Since I've been at college, I like to write little updates to friends or family whenever I have downtime. I just think it's a nice change from a quick text/email to have something tangible to hold. It's fun to use my favorite pens and cute notecards from Target, and to seal the envelope. I definitely  don't go all out with my stationary - I've just been using left-over cards from my graduation party and my favorite gel pens!

Of course, if I had some extra money I'd for SURE spend it on some cute stationary like this!
my favorite motto: simple is always better!
There's something refreshing about a handwritten letter compared to a typed email, and I think everyone can agree. With such a fast paced world where many people are wrapped up in social media (myself included), letters have a certain quality and sweetness to them. I mean, people take the time to read those birthday cards before they open the presents, right?
I also love decorating the envelope like I did for my friend Anna!
I actually just bought this box for 50 cents, but I can only imagine how cute the post cards were. And these are the pens I use -  the Pilot G2 brand that can be found at almost any store :)
Next time you have any extra time, think about writing to a family member, friend, or someone you haven't talked to in awhile to let them know you've been thinking of them...and maybe they just might write you back.

Love always,
Stephanie

Ps. I thought this article was cute in why handwritten letters are much, much better than any technology.

The Calm Playlist

Sometimes when I can't fall asleep or watch another episode of One Tree Hill, I'll play some of these songs. I'll just lay in my bed and face the window thinking about a million things at once. My favorite type of sound I think, are the songs that rely on just a guitar or piano because it's so simple yet so perfect. After what seems like forever, I'll finally fall asleep. This playlist means a lot to me, mainly because it's the music that plays whenever I'm thinking those things that only come out at night.

Hello My Old Heart - The Oh Hello's
Please Don't Go - Barcelona
Whispers - Dave Baxter
Happiness - The Fray
I'll Be There - Brighten
Peace - O.A.R
3 Rounds and a Sound - Blind Pilot
Wildflowers - Joe Brooks
The Last Unicorn - Passenger
Bloom - The Paper Kites
Come Back When You Can - Barcelona
Medicine - Daughter

I hope you enjoyed this post, and as always, let me know some of your favorite songs.

Love always,
Stephanie

What I Ate Today #4

Here's yet another look into my meals from day to day! My eating schedule and what I eat changes every day depending on when my classes are. At the moment I'm not eating the best I could be - but doing these journal type posts helps me see everything that I'm eating from my school's oh so tempting dining hall.
breakfast: cheerios and a banana. (usually I just have the banana, but this morning I had extra time:)
lunch: quinoa stuffed tomato topped with cheese, chicken and almond stew, a garlic/cheddar biscuit, and a lettuce-less salad with peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers.
snack: a pear from my school's local fruit/veggie stand!

dinner: hummus with wild rice, grilled chicken, and a romaine and spinach salad topped with feta, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, croutons, and a ginger dressing.
late night study snack: granny smith apple, red starburst, and barbeque popchips. I know I shouldn't eat late at night, but sometimes when I'm (trying) to do homework, it's a must.

What have been some of your favorite foods lately? Be sure to follow me on instagram because I post more meals there as well!

See you soon,
Stephanie

Favorite Fall Shadows

During these couple of colder months, I always seem to have these eyeshadows on rotation. I find they are the best when I'm on the go, because I can easily use one color all over the lid while blending it out to make it look like I used multiple shadows (shhh). I would definitely recommend any of these colors because they're all great quality, and they give a gorgeous amount of shimmer to your everyday look without being too over the top.

 (L-R)
Covergirl - Tapestry Taupe
MAC - Tempting
Maybelline Color Tattoo - Bad to the Bronze
Laura Mercier - Earth Glow (limited edition!)

(L-R): Covergirl, Laura Mercier, MAC, Maybelline

I love all four of these so much, and what's awesome is that two of them can be found at the drugstore (I'm trying to stick to that that college budget!). These products never let me down and are all easy to apply and blend out. I even just use my fingers to apply them when I'm really running late!

Let me know of your favorite neutral eyeshadows, because as you can see, I have a bit of an obsession with them...

Love,
Stephanie

Happy Halloween!

My roommate Kendall DIYed this awesome catwomen costume!
I hope everyone had a lovely halloween last night! Halloween night I was a zombie where I just put fake blood on an old white shirt, ripped up my tights, and used a ton of grey eyeshadow for my makeup. I'm going to another halloween party tonight, but instead of being a zombie, I'm going to be a robber - you've got to love those diy costumes! During this time of year, I always like to watch a creepy movie, and this year I saw Gone Girl. OH MY. If you've seen or heard about the movie it has had tons of hype, and now I know it is for good reason. It is such a dark, thrilling movie, but a guilty pleasure as well. I absolutely LOVED it.

What are some of your favorite scary movies and what were you for halloween this year? Stay safe if you're going out tonight! x

Love always,
Stephanie
